pastel smitten

happy 2021! i never got online to show pictures of the trees. when i have a moment, i’ll pop over and put them on facebook.

i’ve decided it’s time to get this pastel Smitten all finished up. it has been sitting in the sewing room since 2017 with a couple blocks done…i came to a screeching halt when i couldn’t find one of the pieces. Generally speaking it shouldn’t have been a big deal. Just grab a similar looking dot or small print with the same overall look and go with it, but for some reason i couldn’t move past it.

well, i came upon the bag of papers, acrylics, pattern and 2 1/2 blocks and decided it was time to untie (crazy…am i right?!) the bundles and dig out those favorite scraps…all of which i’ve been saving for some unknown project. Well, that project is a pastel smitten. Since untying the liberty bundles and fanning out the piles of scraps and pulling current luscious bundles from the shop i’ve been tracing, cutting, basting, and stitching like a crazy person.

each block is a new adventure…putting together combinations that are just a little outside the box but still within the color palette that we love so much.

the fabrics are a mixture…French General Lawns, 3 Sisters, Liberty, Tilda, Janet Clare, Quilting in the Rain, Fig Tree Quilts, Brenda Riddle, Jane Austen, and Pretty By Hand are just a few that i can think of.

Right now we do not have any bundles of the fabrics used…however, to get a start…

the following are bundles that i am pulling from and are still available in the shoppe.

Tres Jolie Lawns by French General

Daybreak by 3 Sisters

Winter Flower Show by Liberty Fabrics,

Jane Austen At Home

Maple Farm by Tilda

Figs and Shirtings by Fig Tree Quilts

Guest Room by Pretty By Hand

you can find tilda bundles here. Remaining bundles can be found here.

if you have the fabrics and just need the paper/acrylic/pattern pack. we have those available here.

the pastel Smitten will be the 2nd Smitten i’ve made. The first was made using Moving On Lawns by Jen Kingwell. Definitely outside of our box…but a lovely palette to work with.

well…i’d best get back to unpacking the notions.

be sure to follow us over on instagram to see the pastel smitten come together…

folktale garden

good afternoon! i’ve finished my folktale jelly garden…and i am loving it! it is totally my palette…dusky autumn tones of pink, blue, brown, white, and gold, and i finished it off with a soft pink chenille bedspread fringe…classic and sweet. hopefully i can remember to bring it home tomorrow so i can enjoy it on thanksgiving.

we have kits featuring the Folktale jelly roll available right now with more available when the precuts arrive…

we have some fringe available…along with kits…right now we only have creamy white and blue. no pink that works…keep in mind the fringe is vintage.

and yes, we have 3 kits right now…with more available once our folktale precut order arrives sometime before Christmas?…possibly…keep those fingers crossed!

we also have the full folktale collection available…you can find it here.

low volume loveliness

mom and i have been impatiently waiting for our orders to arrive…our next orders aren’t set to arrive until May! so we’ve been pulling and putting together some gorgeous bundles in anticipation of spring/summer sewing.

the first of our bundles goodness today is Summer Low Volume. a gorgeous mixture of some of our absolute favorite low volume florals. Prints from Pretty By Hand, 3 Sisters, Fig Tree, and some Zen Chic to name a few.

summer low volume

this bundle would be the best if you were planning on doing a pastel glitter with scrappy backgrounds…um…yumminess! (this is glitter…it’s on my list…eventually using pastel florals…and these low volumes would be PERFECT!)

glitter pack

Biscotti backgrounds…we pulled 10 creamy backgrounds with bits of chocolate brown. it reminds me of delicious biscotti and cream-filled coffee. These scrummy prints make up this most luscious bundles. wonderful for adding into your shirting stash…i’ll be adding mine to my scrappy star-a-day! Pair this bundle with the Independence low volume and our civil war color bundles and you have a good start on your next civil war project.

biscotti backgrounds

our last bundle is cozy cottage…a pretty pastel bundle of Bramble Cottage favorites…12 fat quarters…perfect for a summertime throw, stashbuilding, mask making, or beginner quilting!

cozy cottage

that’s all for today…now i’ll be doing a little Christmas fussy cutting (a project is in the works…) and some evening television watching.

you can grab a bundle here.

also….just saw that our liberty Winterbourne bundles shipped today…can’t wait to share them with you!

scrappy star-a-day

good morning!  i’m working away at my star-a-day and couldn’t resist putting together a couple 9-patches.  oh goodness…i’m in love with them and want to spend every waking moment whipping up these tiny darling stars.

i’ve spent a few days chain-basting diamonds…look at that overflowing tin…(and that cottage hearts pillow…i’m all heart-eyes!)

3 inch squares are the alternating squares…

my goal is to use lots of different prints…if each star uses 2 darks and a shirting…it’s about 720ish different darks and 360ish shirtings.  take a look at my first 2 9-patches…loving those stars and scrappy backgrounds!  also…my new coffee cup…

to help get you started on your own star-a-day you can grab our pattern/papers/acrylic pack here.  grab that set of rose gold stork scissors here cuz you can NEVER have too many sets of scissors.

i’ve also put together some fat 8th civil war color bundles…top row from left… tomato soup, mint julep, cheddar cheese puffs, blueberry grits and salsa.  bottom row from left…bubblegum, grapes, burnt brown, peanut brittle, and espresso…you can grab them here.

my back was acting up last week…therefore i didn’t get a lot of bundles cut…but it seems to have calmed down over the last day or so, so hopefully come monday i can get back to bundle cutting and serious machine quilting in between printing and packing orders.

next week…shirting fat 16th bundles are on the agenda along with pattern writing and some kitting.

have a wonderful weekend!

happy healthy stitching!  -a&m&g

mid-february

well, our plans this week have been upended!

Mom and i came to work monday…it was a long weekend and mom is still feeling a bit under the weather so we did some planning, she did some sewing, and i did some online work.

well, yesterday early morning i came down with a stomach bug…which kept me in bed all day long. what a waste of a day! mom and dad came down with the same thing. tina, luckily enough, had the day off and felt great, so she brought gabby to the shop yesterday.

we are all on the mend. i’m back to work, dad is back on the computer as his arm heals, and mom is trying to take it easy so she can get over the combination flu and stomach bug.

***

needless to say…the window is still semi-valentine’s day. not quite changed over to easter. we did start a new project using Brenda Riddle’s Bramble Cottage collection. remember Bliss? basic strips and piping…it is one of our favorites. we are so excited to see it made up again!

bramble cottage strips…ready for Bliss

i’ve finished piecing my Pastel Primrose Garden…it is so sweet and pretty. just have to get to work on the quilting part after i get the backing pieced.

pastel primrose garden
pastel primrose garden

i’m currently working the pattern and will be putting together paper packs and kits of both the pastel and civil war color ways.

***

a few things are simmering but i can’t get started until i have all the pieces…so frustrating! i either don’t have the fabric, or the right paper pieces, or have to do a ton of math to make sure i have enough fabric…goodness…maybe i’ll just walk around the shop and plan the window display. that doesn’t really require any math.

happy wednesday! hope all is well!

dilly bag by treehouse textiles

when i saw this little hexie bag, i knew we needed to have it as part of our collection of EPP projects that we offer. so i messaged her down in Australia and she sent them right up…(you can follow her over on instagram @treehousetextiles)

we set to work on one quite awhile ago and i realized i never posted info on it here on the blog…

i would like to introduce the Sweet Sunday Dilly Bag. we used the delightful prints from Lella Boutique’s Garden Variety and Lollipop Garden along with a few embroidered hexies.

sweet sunday dilly bag

this little bag is wonderful if you would like to dip a toe in the EPP pool without doing a cannonball. Some 40ish hexies…totally doable even if EPP isn’t your thing.

we have have it kitted too! squares of Garden Variety and Lollipop Garden, along with backing, lining, pink stripe for the casing, cording, papers, Dilly Bag pattern which includes an acrylic if you want to do a little fussycutting.

Kits are available here.

if you do the FlossTube thing…you can see this kit over on Suzy’s page…watch it here.

now…to get started on setting up a newsletter/email list/mail chimp thing…don’t know that i have enough time left today for something like that…maybe i’ll just sit back and fold our Memoirs custom bundles…

happy thursday and happy stitching!

ps…more yarn is on the way…just received the shipping notification!

hello september

summer seems to have come to a close. the crisp autumn winds have started pushing out the sunny summer heat and the leaves have started to show their color. we’ve been cozy-ing up the shoppe as well–we’ve fluffed it up with some autumn pastels. pale pumpkins, pale colors, and some pastel fabrics.

i am in love with this newest project mom whipped up…inspired by the feel of a long past primitives shop…this project is cozy, classic, and a perfect addition to any autumn home. featuring a mixture of Shelbyville and Diamond Textiles, this project has all the autumn feels! Backroads measures approximately 48 x 60 inches and is perfect with cream linens and antique crocheted shams and a platter of fabric pumpkins. we have kits available here.

lastly…i’m feeling the cheery, 30’s repo love…(even though i relish the idea of cozy sweaters, farmer’s market chili-i spent all day sunday simmering a stock pot of it-, and crackling leaves)…i couldn’t resist pulling some of my favorite 30’s and whipping up one of these blocks. Missouri Daisy block measures 10 inches and the paper pack includes 4 acrylics and papers for 12 blocks…we have it available here.

Now i’d better get the orders shipped so we can get packing…if you are planning on being in Madison–please stop by and say hi, we are in the same spot as last year!

Lucy Boston week 104…grand finale

good afternoon! we are nearing the end of the day over here…hopefully i can squeeze in enough time to finish up some machine quilting…we’ll see what happens with that.

if you have not already heard…or seen over on instagram or facebook…Lucy’s Summer Cottage is officially finished. I quilted, bound, and washed her…had her all ready for a photo shoot outside, but it has been raining. So we’ve put her up in the shoppe and maybe in late July we’ll get a chance to take some pictures.

i do have a few for you though…this was fresh out of the dryer. it shrank up to be simply cozy…truly perfect for a summer cottage!

Lucy’s Summer Cottage

She is up in the shoppe if you are in the area…she’s always up for a visit…as is her civil war sister!

Civil War Lucy Boston…Patchwork of the Crosses

Both Lucy Boston Patchwork of the Crosses are on display in the shoppe…we do also have some of the block kits still available…but they are selling out fast.

i have other projects in the works…and about 15 minutes ago…thought of another project that i’m going to add to the list…never a dull moment…however, the next few i think will be framed pieces….far more doable and who doesn’t love a little quilty piece framed?

so…this will be the final Lucy Tuesday post…if you would like to start from the beginner 100+ posts ago…they have their own category…be sure to check it out below.

otherwise, i’ll be back later this week with my frothy yoyos…(they are so scrumptious…i just LOVE ’em!)…it is framed (of course!) and uses shirtings (of course!) and each shirting is different (of course! cuz you know i love low volume!) and i’ll have it kitted so you can frame it or stuff it or whatever…

(i also finally got my birthday present at the MN Quilt Show…a CRAZY QUILT! and you guessed it…it is here at the shoppe…to inspire you to get started on your own. it has the perfect-est feather stitching along with some ribbon embroidery, basic embroidery, and fun motifs. i’m hoping to put together crazy quilt packs with some fancy fabrics, threads, ribbons, lace, buttons, embellishments, beads, and other little fun things…all in good time. we do have a selection of the most amazing stitch books…like, literally, WOW!)

***

okay…i’d better get back to my machine quilting. hope you have a wonderful afternoon! i’ll be back with some pictures of Minnie (the crazy quilt has the name “Minnie” stitched on it) along with in-progress shots of a few of my on-going projects.

***

Now before i say good-bye to Lucy Tuesdays, i would like to thank everyone who has been following along…it has been so much fun seeing the progress made from week to week (or month to month depending upon life) and chatting with you when you’ve popped into the shoppe or seen us at a show. We’ll be sure she comes along with us this fall…so if you can’t get into the shoppe…you can catch us at a show.

happy stitching…i’ll be back soon with some new goodies!
