good afternoon! i can definitely feel the late afternoon chill as the sun starts it’s final descend and the street lights start turning on. It was blowy and snowy here this morning…which does make for a cozy day in the quilt shoppe. A little machine quilting, shipping, binding up a late-in-the-season Christmas quilt…that i just love and will talk about tomorrow…which if you remember our Melany Square quilt featuring Rhubarb and Ginger by 3 sisters (yes…i’m talking literally 14 years ago) then you have an idea of the pattern. More on that tomorrow…
today i want to talk about Sarah’s Story by Betsy Chutchian. Ms. Chutchian is one of my favorite designers…her palette, her prints, her books…um…lovely!
This collection features this most amazing wiggly stripe…perfect for the dividing bar of a column quilt, borders, a fun binding…a gorgeous backing…or i’m thinking so stupendous fussy cutting. i couldn’t resist it so i nabbed a bolt of each color of that divine wavy stripe….a total of 20ish bolts i thing…some of each color…lots of that print. we have fq and f8 bundles as well…to help round out your civil war stash.
i even broke up shelbyville and now Sarah’s Story sits front and center…
Quilts for all Seasons is the perfect companion to this collection…especially when mixed with her previous ranges…lots of rich colors and patterns…
ALSO…Memoirs shipped today…i don’t have any pictures obviously…but we have lots of precuts and yardage arrving…i’d love a little Memoirs under the tree this year…get your order in now so when it arrives we can unpack it and pack it right up for you! chekc out our precuts and yardage here.
have a wonderful evening! it’s just about time to head home for a little coffee, cozy quilt, and embroidery.
these books are a feast for the eyes…they definitely have the inspiration to get anyone out of a quilty slump. the gallery of vintage quilts at the beginning of each book makes these both informative and inspiring. i mean honestly, who doesn’t love looking at quilts made 100+ years ago…seeing their craft, their tiny stitches, their colors and palette and possibly favorite print living on today…still inspiring and possibly even keeping someone cozy warm on cold evenings.
i know, for a fact, that in 100 years…if my quilts are still together as one big collection transported by hovercraft or across the galaxy at light speed or possibly across town in a buggy…that my favorite green will have lived longer and touched more quilters than i could have ever imagined.
it is this thought that resonates…that keeps me going back to these 4 books…obviously i love Ms. Sitar’s palette…soft florals, civil war style projects, and a little applique and EPP. However, the gallery of inspiring antique quilts is something that draws awe and wonder and makes me want to pull out my scraps and get to work creating a masterpiece that will live on (with my favorite green making an appearance).
Depending upon your palette…blue, stars, or scrappy…
these are all available now…just pop over to the website here and grab a little inspiration…
i’m heading over to post some Sarah’s Story yardage and hard-to-find Diamond Textiles charm packs of both 5 inch and 3 inch squares…

good morning! hopefully you are getting all geared up for thanksgiving! we’ve been working on a few things around here along with some shopping. we’ve decided all homemade gifts this year, so that has been fun and i can be pretty crafty if i wanna be.
we’ve been loving this retro christmas vibes we get from mixing Sweet Christmas and Merry Merry Snow Days with the remnants of Swell Christmas and Good Tidings. Lots of sweet little prints. i’ve taken all my favorite low volume prints from the 4 collections and added in the house print from French General’s Petite Maisons de Noel. The culmination of the 18 different prints is practically magical. pretty whites, beiges, creams, greiges mix with any decor whether it is classic reds and greens or a more pastel, cottage style christmas. pair this bundle with your favorite collection or add to your christmas collection for a future project.
Christmas Low Volume mixes the best holiday low volumes to bring you a gorgeous grouping of backgrounds to use in all your holiday sewing.
i’m taking some shop pictures once we have a half done project all finished…then i’ll be back with info on that lovely along with a full album of the trees, the new collections, the yarn (and the new Market Square bag tina finished) along with some old favorites…
today at a few minutes before 5:30 it will be the one year anniversary of the accident that caused the amputation of dad’s right leg…above the knee. many of you have asked while in the shop or in our booth, commented, or direct messaged us asking for an update as he gets back to work.
first off…we wish to thank you…every single one of you for your support over that last year. it has been tremendous and no words could ever sum up our appreciation.
it has been a year that has seen definite ups and downs.
i promise i will keep this as clear cut as possible.
November 2, 2018 … a little before 5:30pm the accident …you can read about the accident here. Also on November 2nd, Melany decided to quit her job at about 5pm and the Capital Quiltfest in Bismark, ND which was our final show of 2018, started about 5.
(Melany had told everyone about 2 weeks before the accident that her and ty were going to have a baby)
Needless to say…Mom drove back that Friday…i stayed behind and worked the show…(honestly the longest evening of my entire life…) then lots and lots of phone calls and feeling helpless, but knowing that dad would want me to stay out in Bismark…cause you gotta make hay when the sun shines.
–it got around the quilt show that weekend and everyone was so wonderful and helpful
November 2nd-14th…Melany and Tyler (her boyfriend) went to the hospital every day while Mom did paperwork, insurance, etc. Tina worked and went to the hospital when she could. everyday after work…i would go home, mom would be there watering calves and feeding dogs. then we’d go back to the hospital until abut 10.
November 14th…dad came home from the rehab facility
We had Thanksgiving and Christmas and New Year’s.
We played a lot of 500.
Dad got his leg the last week of December.
We played more 500.
Jan-May 1st Dad bagged papers, retro-fit the tractor with steps, worked the skid loader, moved/fed/watered the calves, ground feed, and did his PT.
May 2nd Dad went back to work
May 6th…Kandii, our 14 year old chocolate lab (Brutus and Max’s mom) passed away at home.
June 16th…Braxton Xavier was born. First grandchild and first great-grandchild on dad’s side which has 10 granddaughters and now 1 great-grandson)
June…Mom and Dad took a road trip out to Yellowstone, Grand Teton, and Badlands National Parks. They were in an accident…which left them stranded overnight. They rented a car and drove back.
June…after they got back Dad was fitted for a new socket and started back driving semi.
Mid-July…mom and i take a week and drive out to drop off the rental car and pick up her car. i had never been to yellowstone, grand tetons, or the badlands…breathtaking…the badlands were magnificent. as always though…i really like coming home.
August 8th…mom had been thinking about getting a puppy and dad had come across a listing online for yellow lab puppies by farming. mom wanted a little girl. so she stops out there after work on the 8th. while talking to the dog parents, the husband thought mom looked familiar and asked what her name was…she told him. he proceeds to tell mom that he was one of the paramedics that was out last fall that helped disconnect the PTO. gabby came home with mom this evening.
October 6th…Dad climbs over a fence…i’ll post this to instagram. (Dad has also climbed a ladder which they said he would not be able to do…he had to check the feeder)
november 2, 2019…if you are reading this about 5:30 we are heading to st. cloud. this time, we won’t be going to the hospital but to dinner. 3 generations…Dad, Mom, Tina, Melany, Tyler, Braxton, and I will be celebrating…making November 2nd a happy day. unlike last year…i’m sure this november 2nd will slip by so much faster.
and cuz if you are a quilter…i’m sure you’d like a quilty picture…am i right?
we getting ready for our Hometown Holiday Road Trip that will be starting this Thursday…November 7-9. we’ll be getting out the trees…Christmas is coming to Sweetwater…and this year we are bringing it!!! New projects, fabrics, food shelf donation for a fat quarter, a complementary project sheet with kits available.
good afternoon! our precuts for urban farmhouse gatherings have arrived…all grey and black and white…and of course we are loving it. it is full of not just any greys…pretty, soft, luscious greys…sweater weather greys, farmyard greys, down feather greys, patina-ed silver greys, country skies greys…perfect for a studio apartment, dorm room, farmhouse, lake house, or loft…
small prints keep the collection sweet, classic, simple, and focal-point worthy…
we couldn’t resist these precuts…look how scrumptious they are…those gorgeous milk ones on top…yummy!
i’ve actually gotten everything online today along with the yardage that is expected to arrive on Thursday. trying to stay caught up with the new stuff so i can get caught up on old stuff.
also…if you are looking for a scrummy background to pair with this collection…Bella Solid Feather is a winner in my book…
i love epp (i’m sure you had no idea!) and i really love Karen Styles of Someret. Her projects, her fabrics, her instagram feed…all glorious!
her newest project…The Honeycomb Quilt…is also darn adorable! get a load of those longer hexies…(yes, these are similar to Yellow Creek, but different…i checked to see if they are interchangeable…they aren’t.)
i love hexies and kinda love this one a lot. the round the world looks like it would be lots of fun and perfect for using LOTS of different prints.
if you’d like to get started on a The Honeycomb Quilt…be sure to nab the pattern and papers…here. we also have fat 16th bundles of civil war fabrics if you are looking to jazz up your civil war collection…here.
i am working on a few older projects right now…i’ll be back with more info on them.
todays almost over…so i best figure out the pathways on my vintage hexie quilt so i can get the yardage cut.
good evening! we finally have everything in the shop put back in order after our back-to-back shows…still didn’t have enough time to get this blog post done at the shoppe…so we are doing some computer work at home.
–a quick shout out to the Dakota Pieces and the Evenings Star quilt guilds for putting on 2 wonderful shows…we loved vendoring at both of your shows…it was a wonderful way to finish out our 2019 show season!–
along with getting everything in the shop back in order…we’ve made the window a little more Halloween/autumn…we still have several Halloween in the Country kits left. This project featuring black, beige and grey has been a big hit. the panel…unfortunately is no longer available…so we’ve kitted up what we could using Ms. Strain’s newest spiderweb print for the border…the remaining panels are available with the pattern…so you can use your favorite Halloween prints. Halloween in the Country kits are available here.
i’m still loving the Autumn Daydream featuring the Wonder collection by Katie & Birdie. the pastel colors work so well in autumn decor whether you are an eggplant, pumpkin, and rusty autumn lover or more the pastel, cottage-y autumn…this fresh mixture of colors will work wonderfully. we’ve put it on the bed and mixed in some more pumpkins along with some wonderful pillows for a comfy, cozy look. grab your autumn daydream kit here.
Pebble & Ivory (Scarlet & Sage)
i’ve been impatiently waiting for Fig Trees autumn collection to arrive…Scarlet & Sage (which sounds more like a Christmas collection) has the prettiest pebble & ivory…so that’s what we ordered in. 10 scrumptious prints of ivory and pebble. we have an idea of what we are going to make, but all in good time! i have gotten some 10 fat quarter bundles and yardage online for you to grab if you have a plan! here is the link to the Scarlet and Sage loveliness…here.
kinda really love these pebble and ivory bundles…totally perfect for a cozy autumn throw…or a Thanksgiving table runner…or even a Dresden plate wall hanging…hmmm…time to get crackin’ on my 10 pastel primroses…so hopefully by the end of the week i’ll be able to start putting together the 9-primrose-patches…gotta have goals!
good afternoon! the day is winding down around here and as usual i wanted to do about 500 hours of work in just 7 hours.
we’ve been kicking it into high gear to try and get some projects made out of the collections that have been arriving.
Mom finished up Autumn Daydream using the Wonder collection and Bella solid coordinates…a classic palette of breeze, bubblegum, linen, cloud, and oatmeal. Pair with some peach and neutral hued pumpkins for instant autumn love.
it works so well with my new favorite peachy pumpkin…
Autumn Daydream is available now…online here and in-store.
we’ve also whipped up a stepping stones featuring the Merry Merry Snow Days. Merry Merry Snow Days is a collection of small prints designed by Anne Sutton of Bunny Hill Designs…she has filled this collection with sweetest tiny prints. Snowmen in coffee cups, stockings, ice skates, stars, trees, dots, stripes…it is safe to say that i LOVE it and i love the quilt mom whipped up (and quilted with lifesize stocking hats–which i also love)! Gabby does too…cuz the second i unfolded it to take a picture…she had Frankensqueak on it and was rolling around…officially Gabby-approved!
i’ve even gotten this kitted and ready to go…you can grab the kit online Here or in the store.
it’s nearing the end of the day…i’ve gotten exactly 7 things done today which is better than i thought i would. now for a last minute tidy up of the cutting table and then home…so we can try and finish up one more project before we load up for Sioux Falls on Friday (we are packing up tomorrow).
Our order of TILDA (yes TILDA!!!!!) will be arriving on Friday when we are in south dakota…so it won’t hit the floor until monday! i’ll be back with some piccys of the lovely Tilda, fingers crossed…early next week. we will be heading to the Evenings Star Quilt Show next Thursday so that doesn’t leave a lot of time for sewing, cutting, and bundling…good thing i ordered lots of precuts!
Just these 2 shows left along with our Hometown Holiday Road Trip then we are shop bound until February!
it is now 5…hmmm…
happy stitching! hopefully you’ve finished at least 7 of the 500 things you wanted to finish today.
