the holidays

we have a couple of fun things happening in the next week!

we’ll be back in the shoppe on Monday and transforming the shoppe into a Christmas Paradise…we’ll have lights, trees, garland, pine cones, and packages mixed in with our curated collection of fabrics, patterns, precuts, and books.  we will be doing a massive rearrange for our Hometown Holiday Road Trip.

join us as we celebrate the season.

The barn quilts we’ve designed…we’ve made them into 8 inch blocks.  Each shoppe has made something using these blocks…our project is below. be sure to pick up each shops’ 8 inch block pattern at the checkout.

First Snow:  uses all 7 block patterns from the Hometown Holiday Road Trip shops (2 of our block).  we used 8 different grey/greige prints so this little lovely will work as long as the snow flies!

we will have kits available of First Snow…be sure to pop into the other shops NEXT weekend…Thursday-Saturday, November 10th-12th…to see their projects, pick up their blocks, and eye up their barn quilts!

summer is coming to a close

yes…we are still here…I realize all you’ve gotten from us in the past month has been Olivia BOW and an Apples to Zinnia’s letter or 2.

Summer has flown by…far quicker than it has any right to!  though I am not such a fan of it being really hot…(mom loves the heat)…I do like the thunderstorms, the “cabin quilters”, and the hustle and bustle of summertime in a lake town.

the Great Minnesota Get-Together started last week (Thursday I believe) and the Minnesota State Fair signals the end of summer…labor day plans, and closing up the cabin for winter.

many of you stop by…saying good-byes until spring…picking up a project or 2 to add to the pile that is waiting for a 6 week snowstorm (hey, it could happen…imagine everything we could get done!)

this fall is looking to be as busy as our summer was…as for the summer events–Quilt Minnesota came to an end of August 17th!  our little shoppe had over 820 hoppers–an all time high!  it was SO great seeing all of you out and about shopping, chatting, laughing and enjoying our great state!

we do have some fabrics, kits, and bundles left…not much, so if you are looking for something in particular drop me a line or check our etsy shop…i’ll be working on building that back up this fall.

speaking of this fall…we have lots happening…

Row x Row will finish on September 2nd (you have until October 31st to claim a bundle).  Our 25 FQ bundle has already been claimed…you can see the quilt and winner on Minnesota Row by Row Experience.  we have fabric plates on order, so if you missed out…be sure to let us know or stop by.  our row is still kitted and ready to go for all the collectors still cruising the state and this country and Canada!

Amongst the Quilt Shows we have our First Ever

HWY 23 Road Rally…October 9th, 10th, & 11th

us shops along Hwy 23 welcome you to join us as we get ready for the holiday season…travel 7 great shops October 9th, 10th, and 11th and pick up a Row at each shop…partake in Make & Takes, snack on holiday treats and refreshments.  Finish up the rally and turn in your Passport and be put in a drawing for 1 of 7 gift certificates…each shop will have the 7–row rally quilt on display and kits will be available for purchase.

ours is below…our row Winter Saltbox is the house row…she has not been quilted yet, but I just love her~

we will have kits available…

Christmas Party!  (I don’t have a date on this…but get ready!~)

now that we have fall events wrapped up…we have some new projects in the shop to get you geared up for autumn.  i’ll be back with more on that once some of these start getting finished up!

I thought i had mentioned in the last sylvia post that we were putting her off for a couple weeks…we had the Bemidji Quilt Show last weekend and this week and next we are busily getting ready for the shop hop.  Well i didn’t…i only talked about last week…so if you popped over yesterday looking for some Sylvia…i apologize, but to make up for that we have basically finished the new QM displays!  YAY!  and i have pictures!  Double YAY!  LOTS–triple yay?

…we still have a bus running on August 2nd and spaces are available!

sunwashed star

just 45 days before the following loveliness can leave our shoppe!  mom is working so very hard to get our Quilt MN 2013 samples all finished up, so we can get kits tied and ready.  i do have a sneak peek of our free 9 inch block pattern though…which will be featured in our Sunwashed quilt.

check out Sunwashed Star below…mom has started the stars and made them a little more scappy and the blocks are done with an unbleached muslin instead of the cream blender.  (i may be biased but the blocks are AWESOME!)

Sunwashed will use 17 fat quarters (so a fat quarter of each print) and muslin background and ruffle…yes, ruffle.  we are so excited to see the end result.

here are some close-ups of the fabrics.  if you haven’t noticed, mom and i absolutely love this year’s quilt mn.  the colors are little bit softer and fit into our style just a tad more than the bolder quilt mn of years past.

mom is going to rework the Frosted Windowpanes from quilt mn year 4 and use the 5 inch panel, a narrow ruffle, and one of these stripes.

the blenders this year include:  brick, gold, tan, cream, green, blue, and brown.  i will probably roll up some fat quarter bundles of these.  perfect colors for stashbuilding or applique.

we love precuts of all kinds!  so below we have from the left:  Nickel bundle (5 inch strips), half yard bundle (includes 17–1/2 yards and 1 of each panel totaling 3), Fat Quarter, Fat 6th (12 x 22), half cake, Fat 8th (9 x 22), half jelly, sweet roll, and charm pack.  Clockwise starting at top:  5 inch panel, small rectangle panel, large rectangle, panel, and tote bag.

Precuts are as follows and each include 17 prints:

Charms  $5.75
half jelly $16.75
half cake $16.75
Nickel Roll $33.50
Fat 8th  $30.00
Fat 6th $36.00
Fat 4th $51.00
half yard and 3 panels $134.49
sweet roll $8.00 (sweet rolls include 10–1 1/2 inch strips)
large rectangle panel $8.50
medium rectangle panel $8.50
5 inch square panel $6.99
yardage $11.49
fat quarters $3.00
tote bags $14.99 (available now)
lapel pins $5.00 (available late-june)
kits (prices to be determined)
Minnesota Glamping (exclusive pattern book by Mickey Zimmer of Sweetwater Cotton Shoppe)  $15.99
To purchase quilt mn call us at 320.243.4436, email us your order at sweetwatercottonshoppe(at)yahoo(dot)com and i will send you a paypal invoice…please let me know if you need it shipped and provide your mailing address.  otherwise, it is available for presale in the shoppe!

be sure to join us on Thursday for the next 3 Sylvia blocks…and hopefully a sneak peek or 2 of Sunwashed!

until then…enjoy the sunshine-

ps…we have buses set up and ready…click on the camper at the top of the left column!

17 days and counting DoWN!

17 days and Quilt Minnesota 2012 will be in full swing!  This years exclusive fabrics have been made into quilts and the display is coming together swimmingly…hopefully i can remember the finishing touches tonight–so when i promise to take pictures tomorrow (the camera battery is dead)…i won’t be lying.

i have a few sneak-a-peaks that were shared on facebook…here is the topper that uses our 9 inch block pattern…

Easy as Pie –sorry for the slight blurriness…it was taken via phone.

then our stamped burlap that can be seen in the tote…

Tomorrow i’ll have a fun-filled post.  With pictures of our hammock–yes, hammock! in the store…it is super awesome, but unfortunately not a true-blue hammock just a lovely rendition of one (for a sneak-a-peak check out our facebook page at right) and pictures of the projects made from Quilt MN 2012.  We have 5 projects made from the exclusive fabrics…Easy as Pie, Golden Pond, Minnesota Moonlight, Cabin Cases, and Backwoods Burlap Bag…all the patterns will be available in our Minnesota Moonlight book ($12.99+tx).

I’ll plug in my camera right now…so tomorrow morning after tweaking the display…i can take pictures.  Think pine trees, relaxin’ sundays on a hammock, blue chipped pain, grain sacks, and old wooden chairs–even (hopefully) some wall art.  We, of course if you know us at all you know we prefer a more girly feel, have our display in the front window…against a lovely white wall with white accents.

So we’ll talk tomorrow…fingers crossed.

Carnival FooD, quilt mn & cotton goodness

good afternoon ladies…mom and i hope you are all having a lovely summer and are getting all geared up for Quilt MN, but between now and then be sure to stop on in and take a look.  mom is putting together Quilt MN lovelies–she has 2 done and 3 (or 4) to go…it depends on what we come up with.  i haven’t quilted anything yet, so i am going to refrain from quilt mn eye candy pics for now.  we have utilized the large panel in a large throw and the small panel in a bed-size quilt that uses a fat quarter bundle of both the Quilt MN 2012 and the Cherrywood blender bundle.  it is absolutly fantastic…i just love the Cherrywood pack!  once all the samples are done, i’ll dedicate an entire post to lovely Quilt MN EyE cAndy with pictures of our quilt mn display and goodies…until then…i’ve named the one quilt “Golden Pond”, i’ve quilted the “Minnesota Moonlight” quilt…which incidentally is going to be the name of the book.  Also…Cabin Cases (a set of 2 pillowcases) that are Cabin-Bound come post shop hop!

here is a sneak peak at the quilt mn kits, yardage, and bundles…more soon!

we have recovered from Carnival Food and Town & Country Days and are now getting back to work…until later…

xoxo–a&m  {sweetwater}

ps…we are dreaming of our Quilt MN 2012 display…we’ve been thinking of hammocks, chippy paint, burlap, and vintage bikes…once it has been finished…that post will be up with plenty of eye cAndY and info on ordering kits, bundles, yardage, and our exclusive Quilt MN 2012 book, “Minnesota Moonlight”…that will have 2 quilts, a bag, a table topper, and the cabin cases.
