simply vintage and a low volume christmas

good morning! hopefully you are getting all geared up for thanksgiving! we’ve been working on a few things around here along with some shopping. we’ve decided all homemade gifts this year, so that has been fun and i can be pretty crafty if i wanna be.

we’ve been loving this retro christmas vibes we get from mixing Sweet Christmas and Merry Merry Snow Days with the remnants of Swell Christmas and Good Tidings. Lots of sweet little prints. i’ve taken all my favorite low volume prints from the 4 collections and added in the house print from French General’s Petite Maisons de Noel. The culmination of the 18 different prints is practically magical. pretty whites, beiges, creams, greiges mix with any decor whether it is classic reds and greens or a more pastel, cottage style christmas. pair this bundle with your favorite collection or add to your christmas collection for a future project.

Happy stitching…

christmas stitching

good morning!  hopefully you’ve had a wonderful thanksgiving.  ours was full of family, doggy kisses, delicious food, and a Clue playing marathon…poor Tina didn’t win a single game.

now that thanksgiving is over i am far more excited about Christmas.  i love pulling out the Christmas boxes and faffing the house with a little extra coziness that Christmas brings.  i love the smell of pine, the soft Christmas carols, twinkling lights, and neatly wrapped presents.

i think it is this inevitable feel of simpler times and wood burning fires that spur me to sit quietly and stitch.  whether i embroider, appliqué, or cross stitch…it truly doesn’t matter…

this year…i decided on Wednesday i would stitch up Crabapple Hill’s Cozy Quilter’s pillow…so i pulled fabrics, threads, traced the pattern and started it Wednesday evening.  i’m hoping to get a it finished up in the next week or so…i’ll be whipping up kits…

if this embroidered/quilty pillow isn’t really your thing…we also have EdMar Christmas kits available…kits include all the threads (including metallic if needed), beads, preprinted pattern on white, needles, and complete instructions.

Christmas Tree, Christmas Candles, Christmas Pine Cone, and Christmas Acorns

if Brazilian embriodery isn’t your thing either…last year i pulled my favorite Christmas Cross stitch patterns and you can check them out as well…Christmas Cross Stitch.

also…i’ll be kitting this lovely from Home for the Holidays…once everything arrives…

and if cross stitch isn’t your thing or you prefer working on something a little bit smaller…this Teenie Hardanger IV project could right up your alley.  cranberry and pine mix with ecru and beads…tuck in a little bowl with potpourri, pine boughs, and bulbs.

if you are looking for some inspiration…the new Simply Vintage winter edition by Quilt Mania is brimming with winter-y and Christmas-y projects including quilts, wool appliqué, embroidery, and Christmas crafts.  17 different projects total to get you in the mood for Christmas.

mom is going to stitch up the little piece on the bottom right.  it is just delightful, dainty, and darling, and she already had a place for it.

i’d better get on over to the post office and check the mailbox.  could have gotten some of my cross stitch supplies that i’ve been impatiently waiting on.

happy stitching…have a safe and happy weekend!  hopefully you can fit in a little quiet stitching time…

autumn goodies

autumn seems to have arrived.  the farmers market is full of pumpkins, gourds, and sunflowers; pots of chili splatter the stove, and I’ve pulled out my thick socks and a flannel quilt or 2.

autumn is most definitely my favorite season…the leaves changing colors, the corn drying down, and autumn collections start shipping.

Today, however, I have other goodies…autumn-inspired goodies…

we’ve gotten in some wonderfully sweet cross stitch…and this Pumpkin project is probably my favorite (for the moment)!

if cross stitch isn’t your thing…I’m sure you can find something to cozy-up your home this season between the pages of the newest Simply Vintage

lastly…our French General thread collections of Autumn and Winter have arrived and are perfect for your next stitchy project…

happy stitching!

taste of spring

march is on its way…along with more snow…I’m sure.

to beat back those winter blues; we thought we get going on a couple fun, summery projects.

these projects may seem familiar…they are old favorites that we just had to bring back!

Urban Sprawl…63 x 80 inches…kitted herepdf pattern download

This super-sized throw was originally made from Basic Greys Urban Couture…well that was 7 years ago already (YIKES).  Well, we have brought it back.  This time we used a mix of super citrus-y prints from Fig Tree Quilts and Refresh by Sandy Gervais.  We bound it with a soft brown.  Perfect for beach bumming, picnicking, or parade watching and can be whipped up in a weekend…easy cutting and piecing, and the big block layout really lets the prints shine.

Confetti…49 x 69 inches…kitted herepdf pattern download

Confetti is fairly recent (2015), but is by no means “old”.  The original used Mistletoe Lane by Bunny Hill and the micro prints were absolutely perfect.  Well…after the smallest of hesitations, we decided to remake this beauty, but instead of using a single line…we decided to use 4 different lines.  The pattern calls for mini charms and we had 4 different ones.  This confetti lives up to its name.  The mini charms are Fleurs by Brenda Riddle, Chestnut Street by Fig Tree, Olive’s Flower Market by Lella Boutique, and Flower Sugar from Lecien…then we added in a couple extra 5 inch squares to make the total 2 1/2 inch squares needed.  This large baby quilt (or small cuddle quilt) is fully of unexpected whimsy…the combination of the brights, vintage-y, and soft and sweet…make this project bright and calming.  Funky and classic.  confettib confettic confettid confettie

Mini Charm Mash-up…we picked 4 different mini charms then added in a few 5 inch squares…tada!

confetti backing…4 different Brenda Riddle checks (LOVE IT)

Lastly…Simply Vintage 2017 Spring issue is available now!  lots of fun projects…including a quilt by Lisa Bongean of Primitive Gatherings, another by Galloping Pony, among others…oh…and the repurposed purse…fantastic!
